Saint Spyridon Family
Center—Frequently Asked Questions:
Q:
Why build a Family Center?
A: The reasons why a Family
Center should be built relate to the
functionality of the existing facility
and the need for a facility for the
Youth. The existing facility after
years of multi-purpose use is in need
of major renovation and repair. At
the time the community center was
built in the 1960’s there was
much discussion on whether a gymnasium
for the youth should be co-located
with the auditorium. The gymnasium
was not built as it was perceived
that people would not rent an auditorium
for weddings and christenings if it
were co-located or near a gymnasium.
We are now in a situation where the
auditorium is not being used for the
functions it was originally intended
for and we are still without a facility
for the youth. It is also our belief
that the project will attract new
members to the community by allowing
new programs and functions to take
place as well as improving upon the
existing programs.
Q:
Why do this now?
A: Charles and Helen Kotseas have
provided a donation of over 1/2 million
dollars to spearhead the facility
getting built. Their stipulation is
that ground breaking occurs soon and
hopefully in their lifetime. As responsible
members of the community and volunteers
of the Building Committee, no construction
will take place until the majority
of the funds from the fund raising
efforts will be pledged, and the approval
to proceed with construction is given
by a community wide General Assembly.
Q: If new construction
does occur what will happen to the
rooms donated/dedicated by families
when the original building was built?
A: A room of equal or greater quality
in the new facility will be rededicated.
Q: If I donate
to the Family Center will my dollars
go towards a building project of some
kind?
A: Yes, the Building Committee is
committed to ensuring that your funds
will be used for new construction
and/or renovation of the facility.
The funds raised will ultimately determine
the scope of the project and whether
renovation, new construction, or a
combination of the two takes place
but we guarantee something “concrete”
will result.
