Ground Breaking Ceremony took place Sunday, October 8th!
An invitation for the Phase I, Parking
Lot Project "Ground Breaking" was extended to the
Greek Community and to all those who have pledged to the Family
Center. On October 8, 2006, immediately following the Divine
Liturgy, the parishioners were guided to the site by the Altar
Boys and the Clergy. After a beautiful prayer and blessing by
Father Dean and Father Greg, ground breaking took place. The
Clergy was joined by Dimitrios Vasiliadis, Chairman of the Building
Committee, Dean Stamoulis, Parish Council President and the
major donors to the project including the Kotseas Family. With
shovels in hand to "break ground", they launched the
first phase of the Family Center project.

Orthodox
Life Seminars
Dr.
James Skedros, a professor at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox
School Of Theology, will be teaching seminars about
our faith and how it relates to our life on Monday evenings
for the next month. The sessions will be at 7pm on the
following days: Nov. 6, 13, and 27 as well as Dec. 4.
Everyone in our community, whether inquirers or those
interested in learning more about Orthodoxy, are encouraged
to attend. The seminars will be in the Tonna Room.
"November
is Holy Trinity Awareness Month"
Holy Trinity Needs Your
HELP! Every Sunday in November after
Liturgy, the Holy Trinity Committee will have a booth
set up at the lobby of the Cotsidas Auditorium. The
purpose is two fold, (1) to bring awareness to the community
of how much Holy Trinity provides for our seniors who
need it most, (2) To obtain pledges for their TG 500
annual gift giving campaign.
As the holidays quickly approach, please look into your
hearts and give the gift that will help keep the standards
Holy Trinity has maintained over the last 12 years.
Pledge today! For more information or to make a pledge

| Father
Greg's
Word of the Week |
| Decimate
I most recently
came across this week’s word the other day while reading
about the Tigers beating the Yankees in the playoffs (sorry,
Yanks fans): the headline was “Tigers Decimate Yankees”.
This sentence struck me because decimate is one of those
words that is never used correctly. Perhaps it is better
to say it has taken on a completely new meaning since consistent
usage is what dictates a word’s meaning. The dictionary
may tell you that you cannot use impact as a verb, for example,
but there is no doubt that people say things like “he
will really impact the team” all the time. Decimate
originally meant to destroy one-tenth of something; the
word itself is from Latin and referred to a practice in
the Roman army. You can easily see the Greek root “deka”
(ten) in decimate. Now, though, we use it to mean destroy
completely or almost completely. If you were to use decimate
to mean that one-tenth of something was destroyed, everyone
would misunderstand you and naturally think you meant that
everything was destroyed, not just one-tenth. Another word
that comes to mind in this vein is “section”,
which originally meant one-sixth of something rather than
merely a part. This phenomenon helps explain why translations
of the Bible such as the King James version, though written
in beautiful English, can be misleading-it is not so much
that archaic words are used but that words we still use
today in some cases had a very different meaning back then.
